A Griefy Valentine Message

How are you doing through this week of red envelopes, roses and chocolates? Valentine’s Day can be a tough one for anyone grieving. This is especially true for you, beloved young widows. Here’s what I imagine you are dealing with:

  • A bombardment of roses, chocolates and love notes wrapped in red envelopes

  • helping your kids fill out 200 valentines for their school parties.

  • Even though a part of you wants to curl up and ignore this day, you have been wandering the aisles looking at trinkets and cards for your kids.

  • Your thoughts are preoccupied with making plans for how to get through another day that reminds you of your loss and all you are living without.

  • Your idea to  ignore this day and treat it like any other has been ruined by the reminders that are everywhere in the world

Even if Valentine’s Day was a ‘meh’ holiday that you and your sweetie barely noticed, this day still can bring a special grief now that they are gone. All of the ‘what ifs’ and ‘I wish it was different’ thoughts circulate and remind you of how much your life has changed.
