Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is the format of Seasons for Healing?

Seasons for Healing is membership in an online grief support community. Materials include weekly emails with practical guidance and resources, access to a private online group, videos from Melinda, and monthly live sessions with Melinda.

Q. Who is this group for?

Seasons for Healing is for anyone who is grieving a loss and wants to learn more about the grief they’re experiencing. It’s for anyone who wants community and connection and who is willing to explore nature and writing as tools for healing.

Q. How long does the membership last?

This is an ongoing grief support community with a three-month minimum commitment. Most grief groups disband after six weeks, but it can be hard to meet new people, share so much, and then move on so quickly. The three-month commitment gives us time to establish a connection where we can safely express ourselves.

Q. Do I have to participate in all the prompts and experiences?

Not at all! Part of learning about grief means trying things and deciding what works for you and what doesn’t. If something does not resonate with you, that’s okay. You do not need to share anything or participate in anything that doesn’t bring you comfort, connection, or support.

Q. What if I’m not an outdoorsy person?

This experience can benefit all kinds of people. It doesn’t matter where you live, what your fitness level is, or whether you’ve done a single “outdoorsy” thing in your life. The only thing that matters is that you’re open to exploring nature as a part of your healing. This can be as simple as sitting in your backyard or visiting a park.

Q. I’m not that creative. Can I still join the group?

Absolutely! This is not a place where you have to perform or be “good” at something. We will be taking pictures and writing as part of the healing process, yet there is no expectation that this should look a certain way. If you don’t have a camera, you can snap pictures on your cell phone. If you don’t want to take pictures, you can use a sketch pad or water colors or whatever feels comfortable.

Q. How do I know if this is the right group for me?

If you are open to new ways of learning and knowing, and if you are accepting of others no matter who they are or what they believe—then this group is for you.

If you are struggling with uncertainty, open to new ways of learning and knowing, and willing to listen and accept others wherever they’re at—without trying to change them or fix them—then this group is for you.

If you ask questions instead of having all the answers, if you offer acceptance instead of judgement, if you are able to listen to others without wanting to fix them or heal them, and if you want nature and writing to be part of your own healing journey, then this group is for you.
