Holiday Lights and Shoulds

This week I am noticing the holiday lights. They are everywhere.

As I take in the twinkling lights, I wonder how you are doing as you move through your days.

Whatever traditions you celebrate, this season brings a special version of grief to each of our doorsteps. It can feel like an affront to our senses to be bombarded with lights, music, foods and all of the trappings of the holidays. What historically inspired joy and celebration, now can bring even more sorrow to your grieving heart.

Do you struggle with the shoulds?

Feeling like you should be doing something different with your feelings and your days than what you are doing?

Or feeling the deep grief that your loved one should be here with you?

The shoulds are mean and hard to deal with in grief. And this time of year brings up a special version of the shoulds for each of us.
